Product description
Powder for solution for injection or infusion Medoclav is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to Medoclav, such as:
- severe infections of the throat, nose and ear (mastoiditis, peritonsillar infections, epiglottitis and sinusitis with concomitant severe systemic signs and symptoms);
- exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (after confirming the diagnosis);
- community-acquired pneumonia;
- cystitis;
- pyelonephritis;
- infections of the skin and soft tissues, incl. bacterial cellulitis, animal bites, severe dentoalveolar abscesses with widespread cellulite;
- infections of bones and joints, incl. osteomyelitis;
- intra-abdominal infections;
- genital infections in women.
Prevention of bacterial infections during extensive surgical interventions in the following areas:
- gastrointestinal tract;
- organs of the small pelvis;
- head and neck;
- biliary tract.
Composition
Active ingredients: amoxicillin, clavulanic acid;
1 bottle contains amoxicillin sodium equivalent to amoxicillin 1 g and potassium clavulanate equivalent to clavulanic acid 0.2 g.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to active ingredients, penicillin and other components of the preparation.
A history of a severe, immediate-type allergic reaction (eg, anaphylaxis) to another beta-lactam antibiotic (cephalosporin, carbapenem, or monobactam).
History of jaundice / liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin / clavulanic acid.
Mode of application
Doses are given as amoxicillin / clavulanic acid content, unless the dose of the individual component is indicated.
When choosing a dose of Medoclav for the treatment of certain infections, it is necessary to consider:
- anticipated pathogens and their suspected sensitivity to antibacterial agents (see section;
- the severity and localization of the infection;
- the age, body weight, and renal function of the patient, as described below.
This dosage form Medoklav can be used in a daily dose of up to 3000 mg of amoxicillin and 600 mg of clavulanic acid. If it is necessary to use a high dose of amoxicillin, another form of Medoclav should be prescribed to avoid ultra-high daily doses of clavulanic acid.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. Some infections (such as osteomyelitis) require long-term treatment. The duration of treatment should not exceed 14 days without evaluating the results of the application and the clinical picture.
Application features
Pregnant
Avoid using the preparation during pregnancy, unless the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
Children
Apply to children from the first days of life.
Drivers
Studies on the ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms have not been carried out. However, the occurrence of such adverse reactions as allergic reactions, dizziness, convulsions can affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate other mechanisms.
Overdose
Overdose may be accompanied by symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract and imbalances in water and electrolyte balance. These symptoms are treated symptomatically, with special attention to the correction of water-electrolyte balance.
Crystalluria of amoxicillin may occur, which can sometimes lead to renal failure. There are reports of precipitation of amoxicillin in the urinary catheter when using intravenous Medoclav in high doses. The patency of the catheter should be checked regularly.
Medoclav can be removed from the bloodstream by hemodialysis.
Side effects
Infections and infestations. Often - candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes.
From the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Rarely, reversible leukopenia (including neutropenia) and thrombocytopenia.
From the immune system. Frequency unknown - angioedema; anaphylaxis; a syndrome similar to serum sickness; allergic vasculitis.
From the nervous system. Infrequently - dizziness, headache.
From the side of the vessels. Rarely - thrombophlebitis at the injection site.
From the gastrointestinal tract. Diarrhea is common. Uncommon - nausea, vomiting, indigestion.
From the hepatobiliary system. Infrequently - a moderate increase in AST and / or ALT levels is observed in patients receiving beta-lactam antibiotics.
On the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Uncommon - skin rash, itching, urticaria. Rarely, polymorphic erythema.
Interaction
It is not recommended to use probenecid at the same time. Probenecid reduces the tubular secretion of amoxicillin. The simultaneous use of Medoklav can lead to an increase in blood levels of amoxicillin for a long time, but not clavulanic acid.
The simultaneous use of allopurinol during treatment with amoxicillin increases the likelihood of allergic skin reactions. There are no data regarding the simultaneous use of Medoklav and allopurinol.
Like other antibiotics, Medoclav can affect the intestinal flora, which leads to a decrease in estrogen reabsorption and a decrease in the effectiveness of combined oral contraceptives.
Storage conditions
Store in its original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Shelf life is 2 years.
