Intended use:
Duphalac is used to treat constipation (slow bowel movements, hard and dry stools) and to soften the stools, e.g. if you have haemorrhoids (haemorrhoids) or after surgery around the anus or in the large intestine. It is also used to treat hepatic encephalopathy (a liver disease causing confusion, tremors, decreased level of consciousness including coma).
Product operation:
It softens the stool and makes it easier to pass, causing water to enter the intestine. It is not absorbed into the body.
Recommended dose:
initial daily dose: adults and adolescents 15-45 ml. Children (7-14 years) 15 ml, children (1-6 years) 5-10 ml, infants under 1 year up to 5 ml. The dose may be administered once daily, e.g. at breakfast time, or in two divided doses.
Dosage in hepatic encephalopathy (adults only): The starting dose is 30-45 ml (2-3 sachets) 3-4 times a day. The dosage may be adjusted to the maintenance dose to allow the patient to pass 2 to 3 soft stools per day
Components:
1 ml of the drug contains 667 mg of lactulose. The other ingredients are: purified water. The drug may contain very small amounts of other sugars such as lactose, galactose, epilactose and fructose.
